What we cover
checkgold.net provides the live spot price of gold in U.S. dollars per troy ounce, gram, and kilogram. The site includes historical price charts covering one day to one hundred and ninety-three years, annual performance breakdowns, a gold price calculator that converts any weight to USD and any dollar amount to gold, a Newsroom with regular market commentary, and an Education hub covering the history of gold, how it is traded, and what drives its price.
Every chart on the site can be downloaded as a color or grayscale PNG for use in newsletters, decks, and reports. Light, grayscale, and dark themes are available in the masthead.
Data sources and methodology
The live price feed is sourced from Yahoo Finance, which mirrors COMEX gold futures (GC=F). The COMEX futures market, operated by CME Group in New York, is the largest gold futures market in the world, and its price serves as the standard reference for U.S. dollar gold quotes.
Intraday data uses 5-minute bars over the most recent trading session. Daily and longer charts use end-of-day closes. Historical data before 2006 comes from an aggregated monthly dataset going back to January 1833.
The price is updated each minute the market is open. Display timestamps reflect the most recent data point from the upstream feed and are shown in U.S. Eastern Time.
How prices are converted
The page allows toggling between troy ounce, gram, and kilo. Conversions use two standard constants. One troy ounce equals 31.1035 grams, and one kilogram equals 32.1507 troy ounces.
The change column on the home page compares the current price to the first data point in the displayed chart range. For a one-month chart, the change is relative to the close roughly one month ago. For the one-day chart, it is relative to the previous trading day's close.
